Keep Posted Updates & Improvements For July 🎉

Hi everyone!

It's been a few months since the last Keep Posted update. There's a lot to catch up on!

Here's an overview of the new features and improvements that got done in June, plus some thoughts on where Keep Posted is headed.

Updates & Improvements

Add, Notes, Links & Attachments To Your Messages

When sharing messages that reference other materials (either files, websites, or documents), you can add links so viewers can quickly get to the resources you're talking about.

Links and attachments show up beneath your messages

Unpublish A Message For Editing

If you realize a message is missing something after you complete it, you can now 'unpublish' it and make changes—add new clips, re-record clips you'd like to change, and remove clips you decide don't belong.

You can unpublish any message from the "Actions" menu on the message page.

Choose a message type

Much of the power of Keep Posted lies in its template system. Templates give different capabilities for different circumstances. The problem was, templates were really confusing, so most people never took advantage of them. You choose your message type at the very beginning of the message, so it's much clearer what the options are.

The main message types are now front and center when you create a new message.

Usability Improvements

A lot of work this month went into improving the usability of various actions in the app.

  • Message editing—Clip durations are displayed as you edit. And if you try to delete a clip that already has a video recorded, you'll get a warning prompt.
  • "Empty state" experiences—when someone hasn't created any messages yet, there is now a better explanation of the next steps.
  • Account deletion—I hope you don't delete your account, but if you want to, it shouldn't be a chore!

Thinking about the future direction of Keep Posted

Over the past couple of months, I spent a lot of time thinking about the direction Keep Posted should go moving forward.

There's a deeper explanation in the attached Keep Posted message above, but the gist of it is:

Face to face meetings are actually a pretty special form of communication, but they're out of step with all the other ways we communicate in the modern workplace. What if instead of gathering around a shared place in time, we reimagined important workplace conversations as a gathering around a shared understanding and enthusiasm for an idea? That conversation may or may not happen asynchronously, but the effort to make it happen should be focused on content, not logistics and scheduling.

That's a lofty idea, but I'm really excited by it. I hope you are too. I think it will be transformative if done correctly.

As always, thanks so much for trying out Keep Posted and giving me the feedback you have along the way. It means the world to me!

One final note: I'm now using a proper email management system for these updates. If you don't want these emails any more, I don't want to bother you. There's a one-click unsubscribe link below if you'd like to be excluded from any future updates.

Have a great July! And let me know if there's anything I can do for you!

I’ll leave the servers running for a couple of months, but if you want to download any of your messages, you should do it soon. Instructions on how to do that at the bottom of this email.👇 If you have any questions or anything, I'm happy to talk about all that I've learned with this project. Get in touch! The...
